Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve
Field trip starts : Sep 23, 2018
The Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve (ORCCR) is a sanctuary for nature and an essential ecological linkage on the Oak Ridges Moraine. The property, more than 175 hectares in size, is dominated by forests and wetlands, and consists of many unique and sensitive natural areas including numerous kettle lakes. This would be an interestingfield trip for people interested in Province of Ontario open space ownership and how management has evolved in recent decades. The ORCCR includes lands that were acquired by the Province of Ontario (Infrastructure Ontario) in exchange for developable lands in the Seaton Community in Pickering. The ORCCR combines two formerly separate properties: Oak Ridges Corridor Park and Oak Ridges Corridor Park East. The Reserve includes Bathurst Glen Golf Course, a 16 km trail network of shared use trails, heritage homes, a TRCA office/education facility.
