At the end of 2014, it was time to review where CASIOPA’s message has been spread – mainly in Ontario of course, but we do have some worldwide reach via our members.
In 2014, CASIOPA Chair Stephen Murphy did bring the message of CASIOPA to the world (and at no cost to our partners who support us financially). Steve attended the Society for Conservation Biology North American Congress for Conservation Biology in Missoula Montana (via eastern Washington and northern Idaho), the Conference on Ecological and Ecosystem Restoration in New Orleans LA, and he stopped by the IUCN World Parks Congress in Sydney Australia to chat with old IUCN friends while on his way to meetings in Brisbane Australia and a UN meeting on resilience in Sydney Australia.
In all places, Steve talked up CASIOPA and its role in protected areas; for example: 2014 sdm
And Steve visited some protected areas.
In 2015, expect more of the same as CASIOPA Chair Steve Murphy travels to meetings across Canada and in Argentina, Chile, the USA, and the UK. CASIOPA’s funds are all spent solely on provincial meetings but the generous funding from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has allowed CASIOPA to then obtain matching funds from other agencies to travel abroad and allow CASIOPA to be a major player in parks and protected areas far beyond the borders of our great province.
